Nevin Jameh, Minister of Trade and Industry, held an expanded session of talks with Dr. Yasmine Fouad, The Minister of Environment to review the latest developments regarding Egypt’s hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP27, scheduled to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh next November, A number of leaders of the Ministries of Industry and Environment participated in the meeting
The minister said that Egypt’s hosting of this summit represents a great opportunity to review the state’s efforts to support the transition to a green economy in various productive and service sectors, reduce carbon emissions, confront global warming and climate changes, and achieve sustainability.
Nevin Gamea: The meeting dealt with preparations for the Industry Day and the Egyptian Environmentally Friendly Industrial Products Exhibition
Gamea explained that the meeting reviewed the role of industry and the private sector in the activities of the summit, as the agenda for the day dedicated to the Egyptian industry is currently being finalized. In addition to the exhibition to be held in the Green Zone, which will include Egyptian environmentally friendly industrial products, as well as the latest technologies used in this context. As well as the initiative for African countries, which targets African companies working in the fields of energy efficiency, clean and renewable energy uses, and circular economy projects, especially in light of Egypt’s current presidency of the COMESA grouping.
Dr.. Yasmine Fouad: The summit will witness the allocation of a day to reduce emissions in the productive sectors to reduce the effects of climate change
From her part, Dr. Yasmine Fouad , The Minister of Environment said that within the framework of the preparation of the Supreme Committee to host the conference, the Committee approved the existence of a special day for “reducing emissions” within the unofficial days of the conference, which is entrusted to the Ministries of Industry and Petroleum. It will include a number of heavy industries with the aim of opening a logical and scientific dialogue with representatives of these industries to hear their opinions and point of view. on how they are committed to reducing emissions to mitigate the effects of climate change, And the mechanism that will be used in this regard.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad confirmed that for the first time, emissions reduction is being discussed in climate conferences. Where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the United Nations Secretariat to launch this day, Noting that the day will include a number of sessions, including one on the African continent and another on the private sector. The national climate action agenda in this regard will be presented with the aim of disseminating it globally.
