The giant Italian oil and gas Eni announced the discovery of new oil and gas wells
in Egypt with a production capacity of 8,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company explained that the discovered wells are located in the ” Mleiha ” concession in the Egyptian Western Desert, and production has already begun, referring to other exploration operations are underway in the concession with promising
prospects.
Through “Agiba”, a joint venture between Eni and the Egyptian petroleum sector,
Eni continues to pursue its near-field strategy in the Egyptian Western Desert Basin,
with the aim of maximizing production by containing development costs and reducing
time to market. Eni is also renewing its commitment in the Egyptian Western Desert with the recent
acquisition of two exploration blocks and planning in 2022 for a new
high-resolution 3D seismic survey in the Meleiha concession to investigate
the gas potential of the region, in line with its energy transition goals
Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954,
working through the IEOC or the International Egyptian Oil Company.
The company is currently the main producer in the country with a stock
production of hydrocarbons equivalent to about 360,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
