Nevin Jameh, Minister of Trade and Industry, continued her series of official meetings with ministers and senior officials of the Qatari government. Where the Minister held an extensive meeting with Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayyid, Minister of State for Free Zones, which dealt with reviewing the components and capabilities of the free zones in the two countries and the investment opportunities and exceptional advantages available in them. And ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two sides in this regard, within the framework of her current visit to the Qatari capital, Doha.
The meeting was attended by Amr El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s ambassador to Qatar, Minister Plenipotentiary Trade Yahya Al-Wathiq Billah, Head of Commercial Representation, and Hatem El-Ashry, Advisor to the Minister for Institutional Communication.
The minister said that the meeting confirmed the unprecedented political support to push the economic and trade relations between the two countries to distinct levels. An invitation was directed to the Qatari minister to visit Cairo to discuss opportunities and possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in the field of developing free zones and increasing investments in them, as the Ministry of Trade and Industry will participate in preparing for this visit and arranging for a workshop during it.
Jameh indicated that the meeting dealt with the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in the field of entrepreneurship and work on exchanging experiences and sharing the successful experiences of the two countries in this field. Noting that it was agreed with the Qatari side on the importance of reviewing trade and economic agreements between the two countries, in line with the requirements of the current stage and regional and global economic changes.
The minister reviewed the Egyptian experience in the field of establishing and managing industrial complexes, which resulted in the establishment of 17 industrial complexes in 15 governorates nationwide, comprising all productive sectors.
For his part, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Free Zones, stressed the importance of strengthening joint cooperation between Qatar and the sisterly State of Egypt in various economic fields, especially the free zone sector, and benefiting from the great opportunities and potentials of the two countries in this regard. He referred to the important role of the Qatar Free Zones Fund, which has a capital of one billion dollars, in developing free zones and enabling private sector projects in the country.
In a related context, Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea held an extensive meeting with Mansour bin Ibrahim, head of the Qatar Investment Authority, which dealt with a review of sectors, projects and investment opportunities in Egypt and ways to benefit from the agency’s programs in financing new projects in the Egyptian market during the next stage.
The minister said that the meeting reviewed the regions, cities and industrial complexes in Egypt and the investment opportunities available in them. She indicated the Egyptian government’s welcome to attract more Qatari investments to the Egyptian market, especially in green economy projects and new and renewable energy fields.
Jameh reviewed the new standards for specifications and quality in Egypt, which aim to increase the quality and competitiveness of the Egyptian product in the local and international markets. An invitation was addressed to a delegation from the Qatar Investment Authority to visit Egypt to review the elements and climate of investment in the Egyptian market and the possibilities of establishing more investment partnerships between the two countries during the next stage.
