The Shanghai city-wide shutdown, which has now spread to other parts of the country due to a record increase in COVID-19 cases, has led to large-scale factory closures and the halting of electronics production, the Financial Times writes. More than 30 Taiwanese electronics factories closed today near Shanghai, while analysts said that important components such as printed circuit boards, used in nearly every electronic gadget, including smart phone and laptop cases, will be affected the most by the factory closures. Even if some companies are allowed to continue production, their utilization rates have fallen to between 40-60%. One analyst said raw materials could not be transported to factories and finished products could not be transported out of them.
