Nevine Gamea, Minister of Trade and Industry, stressed the importance of strengthening joint efforts to achieve Arab economic integration and removing all customs and non-tariff barriers, in a way that contributes to the flow of intra-trade movement and attracting more foreign investments to the Arab region. She referred to the important role of the League of Arab States in supporting joint Arab action to benefit from the great opportunities and potentials of Arab countries and to face the repercussions of regional and global economic changes.
This came in the context of her speech delivered on her behalf by Dr. Dina Mahmoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, at the opening of the extraordinary session of the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States, in which Egypt is chairing its current session. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs, and Mubarak Al-Hajri, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, as well as a number of ministers, as well as heads and members of delegations from Arab countries.
The minister said that the work of the Economic and Social Council in the extraordinary session of the Council discusses many important issues for the preparation and preparation of the economic and social file to be submitted to the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level at its thirty-first session in Algeria in November 2022.
Gamea pointed out the need to come up with decisions related to strategic issues for joint Arab action that can be translated into concrete action on the ground, including the Arab strategy for the peaceful uses of atomic energy, the field of sustainable Arab agricultural development, the Arab strategy to advance the work of women and other economic and social issues that are raised within the economic and social file Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level.
The Minister explained that the recent challenges witnessed by the global arena, including the Arab region, from the spread of the Corona pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, It contributed to the decrease in the volume of intra-Arab trade, which confirms the importance of taking positive decisions to advance the process of Arab economic integration in a way that achieves prosperity and prosperity for the Arab citizen. She expressed her great confidence in the success of this session and coming out with real results and practical decisions that take into account the rapid and successive changes that the global economy is witnessing at the present time.
