Dr. Abdel-Aty: The Ministry of Irrigation participates in the work of the “Hayat Karima” initiative to achieve comprehensive development for the most needy rural communities

Dr. Abdel-Aty stated that the ministry is centrally involved in the work of the presidential initiative “Hayat Karima”, Which aims to achieve comprehensive development for the most needy rural communities, relief from the burdens of the citizens of these areas, providing job opportunities, Through the implementation of a set of service and development activities that would ensure a decent life for citizens and improve their living conditions, Raising the economic, social and environmental level of families in poor villages, and enable it to have access to all basic services.
Dr. Abdel-Aty explained that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation agencies are implementing projects to rehabilitate canals, protect against the dangers of torrential rains, protect the sides of the Nile River, and operate underground wells with solar energy in 54 centers of the first phase of the “Hayat Karima” initiative within 20 governorates. Rehabilitation of 1,201 canals with a length of 4,146 km, with decent life centers
His Excellency added that 1,201 canals with a total length of 4,146 km have been and are being rehabilitated in decent life centers, The lengths of the rehabilitated canals amounted to about 2392 km. وجارى العمل في ترع بأطوال تصل إلى ١٧٥٤ كيلومتر ، The ministry has also completed the implementation of (2) operations to protect against the dangers of floods in the governorates of Minya and Aswan, and work is in progress with (4) operations to protect against the dangers of torrential rains in Giza Governorate. It includes the creation of lakes, embankments, obstruction dams, and cool-down ponds, The operation of (8) underground wells with solar energy has also been completed in Farafra, New Valley Governorate. Implementation of protection works for the sides of the Nile River with a length of 420 meters in Mallawi and Deir Mawas centers in Minya Governorate.
Managing (108) plots of land with an area of 216,000 square meters in (11) governorates for the establishment of 119 service projects on them
Dr. Abdel-Aty explained that the ministry has managed (108) plots of land from irrigation benefits, with an area of more than 216,000 square meters in the governorates of (Sohag, Menoufia, Qena, Minya, damietta, Aswan, Luxor, Asyut , Al-Behira، Dakahlia, Kafr El-Sheikh), In order to establish (119) service projects within the framework of the initiative, such as (youth centers – lifting stations – treatment stations – schools – health units – ambulance points – police points – fire stations – service complexes and post offices – parking lots). The lifting stations for sewage projects had the largest share of the available land with 48 plots of land, followed by youth centers projects (13 plots), then medical centers (8 plots), Typical stands (6 pieces), schools (5 pieces), urban markets (5 pieces), veterinary units (4 pieces), Ambulance units, playgrounds and sewage treatment plants (3 pieces each), Agricultural associations and service and agricultural complexes (2 pieces each).
His Excellency added that the indicators of progress in the implementation of the Ministry’s projects are monitored within the initiative through an interactive digital platform that allows the decision maker to review the various indicators of project completion rates at the level of governorates and different centers.
