Maersk International to invest $500 million in Suez Canal

Which lasted four days, from 7 to 10 August, during which it aimed to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation with the global Maersk Group by signing a bilateral agreement in areas of common interest.

Reviewed by Keith Svendson, Chairman of AP Moller Maersk Group, the group plans to develop the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said as the authority’s partner in the terminal, to turn it into a global hub for container handling in the eastern and southern Mediterranean region.

The group plans to inject investments estimated at $500 million, By operating a new 1,000-meter container berth adjacent to the existing 500-meter berth, With the increase in the number of cranes to 30 winches, all powered by electricity instead of diesel, in a serious step to reduce the station’s emissions and transform it into a green station by the end of 2030.

The plan of the Board of Directors of AP Moller Maersk to transform the Suez Canal Container Terminal into a smart terminal operated by the latest smart systems and advanced communications for container handling was also discussed.

Lieutenant-General Rabie and the accompanying delegation headed for an inspection tour of the Maasflakt Container Terminal of AP Moller Maersk in the Port of Rotterdam to review the smart system for loading, unloading and transporting containers without human intervention. Using a group of smart winches for loading, unloading and storing containers automatically, as well as using self-driving cars to transport containers from one place to another. Expanded use of clean energy in the station, with a tendency to transfer this experience to the Suez Canal Container Terminal during the coming period.

After that, Lieutenant-General Rabie, Chairman of the Authority, met the work team of the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, He accompanied them on a cruise to review the entire port, which annually receives about 30,000 ships of various types and contributes 6.2% of the national product of the Netherlands. It is considered one of the largest ports in the world that provides ship refueling service.

and the next day, Lieutenant-General Rabie, Chairman of the Commission, headed to Denmark, where he met with Mr. Sorn Sko, CEO of Maersk A.P. Muller International Group, and Mrs. Henrietta Tejsen, CEO of Fleet and Strategic Brands to discuss plans to develop the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said Port and turn it into a smart and environmentally friendly terminal, And discussed ways to enhance the rates of Maersk ships’ transit through the Suez Canal by attracting new ships to enter East Port Said port and transit the Suez Canal, whether before or after entering the port.
