The Ministry of International Cooperation participated, In two sessions on food security, energy and sustainable transportation, During the activities of the Addis Ababa regional workshop on climate action and roads to COP27, Which is one of five regional forums held in cooperation between the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the Egyptian Presidency of the United Nations Climate Conference COP27, and High-Level Climate Action Pioneers of the COP27 Climate Conference and the previous COP26 Glasgow Climate Conference “Towards the COP27 Climate Summit: Regional Forums on Climate Financing Initiatives and the Sustainable Development Goals, which includes relevant parties from the governmental and private sectors and civil society, To stimulate private sector investments in the field of adaptation and mitigation of the repercussions of climate change, Focusing on the seventh, ninth, thirteenth and seventeenth sustainable development goals, as tools for change, and promoting the comprehensive approach to financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
During the two sessions in which he participated, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Gawad, Minister Plenipotentiary of Commerce and Head of the Cooperation Sector with International Finance Institutions and United Nations Organizations, and Mrs. Sherihan Bakhit, Assistant Minister of International Cooperation to oversee cooperation files with the Americas and Europe, The “Noufy” program that was launched to finance and attract investments for green projects in the energy, water and food sectors was discussed. As part of the country’s future vision for the transition towards a green economy, Implementation of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, It is an integrated national program to support the state’s priorities to support climate action and green projects in the field of food security, agricultural productivity and resilience to climate changes. As well as the development of infrastructure and sustainable transportation, As well as the expansion of renewable energy projects.
Officials from the Ministry of International Cooperation explained, That the “Noufy” program reflects the main messages that Egypt presents to the world during the United Nations Climate Conference COP27, It is the transition from commitments to implementation, Noting that a joint coordination cooperation platform was held in which all multilateral and bilateral development partners participated to present the details of the program, which witnessed international and regional interest from all participants, Pointing out that Egypt seeks to implement the program in a way that enhances its national efforts in the field of climate action, Then promote it as a success story for mobilizing climate finance for the continent of Africa through the transfer of development experiences and expertise.
And they continued: The program aims to stimulate the participation of the private sector through mobilizing concessional development funds, blended financing and risk reduction tools. This will open the way for the private sector to finance more adaptation projects and mitigate the repercussions of climate change. In addition to providing technical support and consultations necessary for the implementation of these projects.
The five regional forums, Creating effective partnerships between relevant parties to promote public and private investments in climate projects, Stimulating financing tools and investment opportunities in clean energy, food security and digital transformation projects. highlighting successful models in different countries, Enhancing the joint work between the various working groups of development partners and investors to study tools and initiatives that accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement, and advocate transparent efforts that allow developing countries to meet their climate investments.
It is worth noting that within the framework of the mandates of the Prime Minister, Preparing lists of green development projects and starting their promotion with international funding bodies, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat , Minister of International Cooperation,launched: early July, “Noufy” program for financing and investing in climate projects according to an integrated approach between the water, food and energy sectors, Through the joint coordination cooperation platform of the Development Partners Group, Held in partnership between the Ministry of International Cooperation and the United Nations Office in Egypt, Under the title “Climate change and strengthening partnerships and strategic dialogue on equitable and sustainable climate finance… the focus of the relationship between energy, food and water”, More than 155 representatives from development partners and national authorities participated in it.
