Discussing mechanisms for the safe disposal of waste for hotel and tourist facilities in Sharm El-Sheikh

Dr. Khaled Al-Anani welcomed the ministers, the governor and all attendees to this coordination meeting, Which he indicated comes in light of the Egyptian state’s preparations to host the “COP 27” conference in the best way and in a manner that befits Egypt’s tourism reputation and its leading position in the ranks of major tourist countries.

Dr. Khaled Al-Anani started his speech, He praised the huge efforts made by the Ministries of Local Development and Environment and the Governorate of South Sinai to work strongly on the safe disposal of waste in Egypt, especially Sharm El-Sheikh, to bring the city out of its best form.

He also thanked the Governorate of South Sinai for the development that Sharm El-Sheikh is witnessing. Pointing out that everyone is very optimistic that the Egyptian state will show the city of peace in its splendid form and that it will be worthy of organizing this important conference, He also thanked the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for all aspects of cooperation and support that are being provided to prepare for this important conference.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities referred to the steps taken by the ministry to transform the Egyptian tourism sector into a green and sustainable sector, especially in Sharm El-Sheikh. So far, there are 109 hotels. And 40 Awad Centers and marine activities have a certificate stating that they implement green practices.

The Minister of Local Development indicated that the government seeks to have a sustainable and regular waste system at the highest level of efficiency and discipline not less than international cities in this field of waste in Sharm El Sheikh in particular and South Sinai in general. Transforming Sharm El-Sheikh into a sustainable green city and raising the efficiency of waste collection, transportation, treatment and recycling.

Shaarawy explained that a contract is underway with an Egyptian coalition to work in the waste system in the governorate and provide collection and cleaning services for streets, public squares and axes, and transfer waste from neighborhoods, residences and hotels, as well as beaches, safari, parks and environmental awareness to work in the waste system in Sharm El Sheikh in a civilized manner that reflects Egypt’s image before the world during events The conference maintains that Sharm El-Sheikh is at the forefront of sustainable cities in the world, Pointing out that the local community and the people of the governorate working in this field were taken into consideration to work in the new system.

The Minister of Local Development also stressed that the Ministry would provide all the support required to maintain the waste system in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, where a number of infrastructure projects for the system were implemented during the last period, with the ultimate goal of making Sharm El-Sheikh an honorable front for Egypt before world public opinion and be a city Green meets local sustainability standards.

From her part, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, expressed her appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities for its continuous efforts to support ecotourism, participate in the preparations for the COP27 climate conference, and work to integrate the environmental dimension into the tourism sector and properly utilize natural resources to achieve growth in ecotourism while preserving natural resources to reach sustainability and harmony between The tourism and environmental sectors to reflect an image befitting the name of Egypt globally and be a real opportunity to support the eco-tourism sector as one of the most important economic tributaries.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad reviewed the executive position of the waste management system in Sharm El-Sheikh as one of the axes of turning green and preparing for the COP27 climate conference. Noting that waste management means that the facility producing waste is responsible for ensuring its safe disposal, starting from collection to transportation to the intermediate station and contracting with the recycling plant or safe burial, She stressed that, in order to achieve proper waste management, the state decided to first start building infrastructure during the past two years and contracting with private sector companies to ensure good management.

The Minister of Environment indicated that he is in the process of preparing for the climate conference and reaching a different service. It was agreed with the Ministry of Local Development and the Governorate of South Sinai that one of the companies responsible for cleaning the city in all its axes, starting from collection, transportation and street cleaning, noting that the work also includes implementing awareness programs and collecting And sorting from the source, and the procedures for obtaining the service from the tourist facilities have been agreed upon.

During the meeting, the latest developments in the integrated waste management system in the city were reviewed. In addition to a presentation of a number of infrastructure projects and proposals for the development of this system and the safe disposal of waste, In addition to emphasizing that the necessary measures will be taken to complete the logistical procedures for the Cop27 conference, according to the timetable specified for that.
